The Taste Economy

When popular culture (music, TV, movies, online publishing) is defined by algorithms, the concept of “selling out” (as flawed as it is) makes no sense.

Inside ABBA’s live residency. Whatever you think of their music, the holographic show is impressive:

  • Holograms of each member created by Industrial Light & Magic

  • Housed at ABBA Arena (a custom venue outside London) outfitted with 291 speakers, LED screens, and seats 3000 people

  • There are 600 tons of equipment above the crowd

  • 500 moving lights are mapped to 30,000 points in the area to create the illusion of a real-life band

  • It cost approximately £140M to develop

  • 1.5M tickets sold with an average price of £84. The production has been sold out every night for 15 months.
